#2 Jan-13 Version T11 - The light appeared!


Hello everyone! A week as already passed and it is time for a new devlog and game update, some exciting stuff this week.

In this new version we have a couple major changes.

First the sun was created, there’s now dynamic lighting on while you’re out exploring planets and moons, this is mostly a test for now, tell me how you like it!

Next is the addition of the mining mini-game this is a stepping stone to set the sort of gameplay I”m currently thinking of having in over-comet. The idea is that instead of just clicking ui buttons, most actions have small mini-games “chores” that the player accomplishes, different for each kind of task, those can sometimes reward you with extra resource and such. Hopefully those don’t get too repetitive ,looking for your feedback on this.

Then a whole storage system was designed as well as a revamp of the inventory system. Feel free to store away! The idea here is that has the game progress people will probably have “themed” rooms, maybe create and infirmary for instance and will want to store items related to it’s theme, of course more container types will eventually be added like cabinets and such.

And one of the more long game changes is that now planet generation started using our Space Database, which allows to have different types of planets with different resources, for now we only have 2 types of celestial bodies, planets and moons but those 2 have different resources on them and this will be expanded in the future.

Changes :

  • Addition of a mining mini-game, upon succeeding it the player gets additional resource
  • Planet and moon now generate differently, each with their own resources
  • Creation of the sun (lighting on planet and moons)
  • Creation of a Storage system
  • Inventory UI revamp
    • Added the ability to sort your inventory
    • Added a limit to the amount of things you can carry

New Items :

  • Nitrogen Crystal - Appears on moons
  • Nitrogen Ice - Harvested from Nitrogen Crystals
  • Added a box (To put things in) - Can be crafted and get a free one (for now)
  • Lilight Caps have been renamed to Lilight Strands

Smaller Changes :

  • New furniture UI menu, when inspecting furniture
    • Can’t remove furniture with right click anymore
  • Various changes to item database behavior
    • Not everything is a rock anymore (Item description is now updated when inspected)
    • Item name isn’t the name of the resource it gives anymore
  • Added basic Azerty Keyboard support
  • Made it so Lilight don’t vanish when you gather them
  • There’s now a pop up when clicking on the landing pod, instead of leaving automatically
    • You also need to be in range
  • Camera now snaps at 45 degrees increment
  • Changes to the help section

Bug Fixes :

  • Fixed an issue where moons would be deleted when quitting the game
  • Fixed a bug where you couldn’t interact with resource on the edge of planets and moons

What’s coming next :

I haven’t exactly decided what’s going to be the focus for version T12, but some things I really want to get started on are a revamp of the room system as well as a ship map, to be able to create different sized rooms and different map layouts.

I also want to start working on other kinds of celestial bodies such as comets and asteroid as well as refreshing the available resources player can get as well as some other mini-games, perhaps one for tending to our space station plants for instance.

I also plan on starting to add more furniture slowly as I get more familiar with blender.
